Barena Venezia has been quietly shaping the way Italy dresses since 1993, when Venetian entrepreneur Sandro Zara turned a lifetime in textiles into a brand of his own. He found his blueprint in the archives of old lagoon wool mills, uncovering original patterns and stitching books that still inform the collections today, reworking the workwear of 19th-century Venice's hunters, fishers, and farmers into something softer and more modern. The idea at its heart is elegance even when you're working the land. Longtime creative director Massimo Pigozzo still leads the menswear, building each collection fabric-first and made entirely in Italy.
At its core it's a family business. Francesca Zara designs the womenswear, while Davide Sambin Zara leads the commercial side, and he's been a real driving force behind the brand's recent growth and international reach. The look is soft tailoring and sprezzatura before those words were trendy. Relaxed, lived-in, navy at its heart, and refined without ever feeling rigid.
Cueva has carried Barena since 2022, and the two have grown close, teaming up on exclusive capsules made in Italy that bring Venice and New York together.
