Comme des Garçons Homme
Tokyo, Japan
Rei Kawakubo started Comme des Garçons Homme in Tokyo in 1978, and the house has been a fixture of the Paris fashion calendar since the early '80s. Homme was the first menswear line from Comme des Garçons, and it's still the most down-to-earth one. The idea has always been simple: good sense, good quality.
Since 2003, the line has been designed by Junya Watanabe, who learned under Kawakubo for years. He takes clothes men already wear, like work jackets, military pieces, blazers, and button-ups, and reinterprets them through careful cutting and small, smart details. You'll see his signature patchwork, washed and shrunken wools, unusual dyes, and textured fabrics throughout.
From a distance it looks like classic menswear. Up close, you notice everything that makes it special.
