Sigurd Bank never quite set out to build one of the most quietly sought-after menswear brands in the world. Back in 2016 he was working as a designer and head of production for another Copenhagen label, and the deal was that he could work on something of his own from their space. So he started sourcing deadstock fabric, drawing patterns, and following his own instincts. That side project became mfpen, a Danish legal term for signing on someone else's behalf, and the offhand, unbothered spirit of those early days still runs through everything.
The clothes are where it all comes together. mfpen reinterprets classic European tailoring through relaxed silhouettes, drawing on both retrospective and countercultural ideas to land on timeless garments with an understated, refined elegance. Bank doesn't work in seasonal stories or mood boards. He talks instead about a continuation, a constant process of building a trusted collection of classic menswear made to last, where the fabric often defines the design, and sometimes it works the other way around. The details reward a closer look, like denim that's been deliberately distressed into a peeled, weathered finish, or the gentle subcultural nods folded into otherwise classic suiting.
That obsession with fabric is also where mfpen leads. The brand follows a responsible hierarchy, prioritizing high-quality European deadstock from the industry's own excess, then recycled and post-consumer materials, like a trench made from wool broken down into new fiber, before reaching for certified organics. Around 40% of the line still uses deadstock, including premium suiting.
And it's all done a bit in the shadows, with almost no marketing and lookbooks shot on analog film. The recognition has come anyway. mfpen was a semi-finalist for the 2025 LVMH Prize, proof that doing things quietly, and doing them right, still gets noticed.
